FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

WINDMILLS/WATER FOR WILDLIFE: Third Update!

New Mexico, United States

Yet a third “Water for Wildlife” project at the honorable Pueblo of San Felipe has been completed.   This time a brand new well has been drilled and installed, primarily funded by a WHOA grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) with generous donations and collaboration with PlacitasWILD and other non-profits.

STRATEGICALLY LOCATED

This well is in a location where it  can potentially provide water for wildlife on the Bureau of Land Management Lands (BLM) lands contiguous with the San Felipe Pueblo to the north and Placitas to it’s south. These lands are known as the Buffalo strip and are part of the last viable Sandia Mountain wildlife corridor.

WHOA would like to thank the Pueblo of San Felipe for their long term wildlife work the ASPCA for their long term support and PlacitasWild for their collaboration generous donations.

The Windmills for Wildlife project is critically important for the area wildlife including wild horses, in the Sandia Mountain – Rocky Mountain wildlife corridor, as intermittent drought has hit New Mexico in recent years.

Upheld by NM Courts – DNA Testing Requirement => Placitas Spanish Horses

The first 4 Wild Horses tested, as required by WHOA legislation, upheld in the NM Supreme Court showed a 91 to 96% probability of being Spanish Mustangs. Values lower than 80% indicate crossbreeding per UC Davis.

Governor Martinez’ Fake Working Group on Horse Overpopulation

The “working group” in the article below was literally requested by special interests just 5 days after Valley Meats announced they were opening a horse slaughter plant in Roswell, NM. This working group hid kill buyer dumping of horses rejected at the Mexican border and claimed astronomical numbers of horses on Navajo lands (which the state of NM had no jurisdiction over and no counts for!). This was proven by WHOA inspection of public record.

This working group also blamed these impossible numbers of horses on poor people and First Americans claiming they were being dumped by poor people and 1st Americans due to the economy and high hay prices. Scapegoating…in order to make people believe that New Mexico needed a horse slaughter facility but basically blaming it on the 1st Americans while this administration deceptively feigns that it is against horse slaughter.

In fact kill buyer dumping of horses rejected at the Mexican border as unfit for human consumption are taken to ranches for fattening and re-sent to slaughter and some are dumped on First American lands it seems, in an effort to push them toward horse slaughter by this administration.

These working group numbers are in no way congruent with the estray numbers of the state which are typically under 100 and have no basis in fact. Actual Navajo estimate given WHOA on Oct 29th 2013  (on this page here)  was 11,000 and since then the Navajo report they have rounded up 7000.

The below article was referred to in numerous articles calling it out as false reporting by the media and this administration. It was removed from the internet, however, WHOA has saved a true copy below for reposting here.
