{"id":56,"date":"2012-01-25T15:05:00","date_gmt":"2012-01-25T22:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/whoanm.org\/wordpress\/?p=56"},"modified":"2012-03-02T22:48:03","modified_gmt":"2012-03-03T05:48:03","slug":"whoa-and-dot-provide-signage-for-the-rocky-mountain-wild-life-corridor-in-placitas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/whoanm.org\/wordpress\/whoa-and-dot-provide-signage-for-the-rocky-mountain-wild-life-corridor-in-placitas\/","title":{"rendered":"WHOA and DOT provide signage for the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Corridor in Placitas, NM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WHOA has worked with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NM DOT) to provide\u00c2\u00a0needed Wildlife Corridor Signage for the mountain community of Placitas, NM.\u00c2\u00a0 Among the wildlife to watch out for (at night especially) are mountain lions, bears, deer, bobcats, coyotes, and wild horses.\u00c2\u00a0 There are even occasional porcupines, prairie dogs, and wild turkeys.<\/p>\n<p>The DOT agreed to either a yellow diamond-shaped\u00c2\u00a0caution sign with the picture of a wild horse\u00c2\u00a0or a yellow diamond-shaped\u00c2\u00a0wildlife corridor caution sign.\u00c2\u00a0 WHOA chose the wildlife corridor caution sign, so as\u00c2\u00a0to\u00c2\u00a0include information regarding\u00c2\u00a0all of the\u00c2\u00a0wildlife in Placitas, NM. WHOA has provided additional\u00c2\u00a0signage regarding\u00c2\u00a0the wild horses and the DOT has provided additional\u00c2\u00a0signage regarding the deer.<\/p>\n<p>WHOA has also given a proposal for assistance\u00c2\u00a0with management of the Placitas\u00c2\u00a0Wild Horses to the appropriate\u00c2\u00a0agencies.\u00c2\u00a0 There has been no official response.<\/p>\n<p>Placitans\u00c2\u00a0continue to show strong support and take great pride in the Placitas Wild Horses as well as all the wildlife that grace this area and its beautiful open spaces.<\/p>\n<p>Please stop and see the Wildlife Corridor Mural\u00c2\u00a0at\u00c2\u00a0the Recycle Center at the entrance of\u00c2\u00a0Placitas\u00c2\u00a0on the North side of RT 165.\u00c2\u00a0 The mosaic mural project &#8220;Protect Our Wildlife Corridors&#8221;, depicts much of the Placitas\u00c2\u00a0wildlife and flora.
