Seven remains the number of horses
captured on the Wildhorse Roundup on the Jarita Wildhorse Territory northeast of
El Rito, New Mexico. Weather was a factor yesterday and air operations had to
cease at 1:00pm, but allowed the contactors to regroup and construct two new
traps at lower elevations. Many of the Wildhorses have moved off the mesa down
into canyons and drainages.

Horses captured include l blue
roan stallion, 1 mare with yearling, 1 roan mare, 1 young stallion, 1 mare, and
1 young black stallion.

After five days completed on the
roundup no foals have been sited.

Horses have been moved to a
holding pen at Ghost Ranch, and have been evaluated a veterinarian. The horses
are in generally good condition, but showing the effects of the winter. There
have been no injuries to the horses from the Roundup.

Roundup plans call for capturing
up to 30 horses.

A viewing day has been scheduled
for April 25,2003 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Adoption of the Wildhorses will take
place on April 26, 2003 at 10:00am. Both the viewing and adoption will take
place at the Ghost Ranch Livestock facilities 2 miles north of the Abiquiu lake
turnoff (highway 96), on highway 84. Facilities are visible on the north side
of the highway.
