THE RIDE FOR LIFE

A ride for their lives in every state!!

Feb 19th 2005

Ride your horses around your state’s capitol bldg., or the federal capitol bldg.

  1. We need organizers and riders for each state.
  2. If you would like to be an organizer or rider, please send me your name and contact info. It will be Posted on our web www.whoanm.org  so that riders in your state can join you. Trust yourself, you can do it! All that matters is that you care!
  3. A City Permit will be needed for the Ride for Life around or near your Capitol Bldg. Each organizer needs to get this OK’d as soon as possible. Call the police dept. in the precinct of your state Capitol Bldg. They will guide you through this. Try to get a permit right at your Capitol Bldg. or as near as possible. Schedule the event for 2-3 hrs. Then schedule a fun ride right after to congratulate yourselves and your horses!
  4. Invite folks to join in on the ride for Life on Feb 19th with Feb 25 as bk-up weather date. Place an advertisement in your local horse magazine that has a calendar of events. Invite by email and phone all the horses rescues, Vaulting Groups, Pony Clubs, Show groups, in your area or near the Capitol of your state.
  5. Contact other horse and animal advocate groups to help you support your ride and list them in your press release.
  6. Write a Press release (See Sample press release   DRAFT_PRESS_RELEASE2.doc  ) two weeks before Feb 19th. Send it out  to every news agency in your state. Your state government will have an email list of these. Send out your press release regarding this event a couple times more as the event nears. Call the TV stations in your area to ensure they are coming. Try to educate them on the issues. Be prepared to speak or have someone give a few statements to the press when they arrive. (See Sample statements) Ask folks to call their state and federal representatives to support passage of your state bill and the Federal anti-horse slaughter bill.
  7. You’ll do great, if you can get 10 or more horses there, they may actually benefit from your actions themselves! You’ll likely get many more. Try to get kids there if possible. The News folk cannot resist this! However, safety first. Bring calm horses and have someone at each horse’s head if that will help as well as a rider where helpful. (For Washington DC lets set a goal of 100 if not more!!)
